FAQs: Why discover Berlin by bike?

Experience Berlin directly and without long walks — because the city is awesome! By bike, you are flexible and can easily get to the most exciting places. Our tours cover quiet back roads and flat terrain, so you can roll in a relaxed way. Almost half of the routes run through green parks or along the Spree — perfect for enjoying the city to the fullest. Our experienced guides will provide you with exciting insider knowledge and entertaining anecdotes for an unforgettable Berlin experience!

Where do the tours start?
The tours start and end on the forecourt of St. Nicholas Church (for GPS: Poststraße 11, zip code: 10178

).

Do I have to sign up for the tours? By when should you register?
We highly recommend booking in advance, as group size is limited and allows us to plan better. There is also a minimum number of participants that must be reached to start a tour. It is sufficient to register two to three days in advance. Preferably earlier.

Can I also cancel my booking again, e.g. if it rains?
Bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before the start of the tour. Our detailed cancellation conditions are set out in the terms and conditions. Basically, it is very rare that our tours have to be cancelled due to bad weather. The decision criterion for this is an official severe weather warning from the German Meteorological Service. Rain showers are usually of short duration, you can hide for a moment or discover a nice café. The guide also has rain ponchos ready at the start of the tour. If the bike tour really cannot take place (official severe weather warning), we can postpone the tour or, alternatively, carry out a foot tour (umbrellas are available in sufficient numbers). Among other things, we need your mobile phone number for such cases

.

Do I need my own bike?
No We provide smooth-running bikes for the tour. These are regularly checked and maintained by our experienced mechanics. It is of course possible to bring your own bikes.

How does payment work? Can I pay by card with you?
When booking via our online form, you can pay for the tour by credit or debit card, instant transfer or PayPal. You can pay locally with an EC card, credit card or PayPal.

Are there toilet breaks?
Public toilets are scarce in Berlin. Our guides know them all and are happy to take appropriate breaks.

Do I have to wear a helmet?
No According to road traffic regulations, wearing helmets is not mandatory, but it increases safety. That's why you can borrow bicycle helmets in all standard sizes from us free

of charge.

How exhausting is a guided tour of the city by bike?
Much less exhausting than a guided tour on foot. We travel at a relaxed pace on smooth-running wheels. We also stop at interesting locations every five to ten minutes.

Are there tours for kids? What types of wheels are available?
Tours 1 & 3 are suitable for all ages, all others not necessarily for small children. Of course, we also have bikes for the little ones. From trailers to tandems, everything is available. Please let us know if you have any special requests. We offer adults the most common variants: ladies' and men's bikes, gears with backpedal and freewheel, and wheel sizes of 24 to 28 inches. The average age of our bikes is 1.5 years.

I have luggage with me. Do the wheels have a basket?
Yes, almost all bikes have a basket. And you can leave luggage that is too big for the bike baskets in our office for the duration of the tour

.

What does the name 'Free Berlin' stand for? The bike rides are probably not free, are they?!
Our name has two backgrounds. 1. The FREE BERLIN CONCEPT: Guides have the freedom to design their own tour. Deviations are therefore possible. 2nd Many of our tour guides grew up in divided Berlin and directly experienced the Cold War and the fall of the Wall. Since then, Berlin has had the reputation of being a tolerant, libertarian, free city all over the world. While looking for a name, we came up with the simple, memorable and understandable 'Free Berlin

. '

What are your office opening times?
In principle, our office is open every day from 10:30 to 18:00, on Sundays only until 15:00. However, loans can start outside of it on request and end at 21:00 as standard. From November to the end of February, we are only available to a limited extent.

I have fallen in love with the tour guide and would like to see him/her again. What should I do?
Our guides all look dazzling and sparkle with charm. Falling head over heels in love with him or her is only natural. So if you're single and interested in one of our tour guides, don't be shy and let us know! We will then discreetly forward your request to the guide of your heart.
